Update on Service Enhancement in the NEMS

Incorporation of solar generation forecasts in the Market Clearing Engine

The rule change proposal to incorporate solar generation forecasts in the market clearing engine (MCE) to produce more accurate dispatch schedules was supported by the Rule Change Panel and approved by Energy Market Authority (EMA) on 14 April 2022.

Since then, EMC worked tirelessly with EMA to upgrade existing systems and technical applications to ensure that the daily function of the MCE will not be disrupted.

We are pleased to share that solar generation forecasts have been incorporated in the MCE and are available on our website since 21 February.

Given the increase in significance of solar energy as an important switch in Singapore’s energy transition journey, EMC recognises the need to understand and share information on solar generation, which in turn is crucial in determining the required dispatchable generation resources to meet the total load.

In alignment with the April 2022 EMA approval of the rule change proposal (EMC/RCP/127/2022/RC371), Power System Operator (PSO) undertook a comprehensive upgrade of its Energy Management Systems (EMS) to incorporate a solar forecasting system and furnish EMC with solar generation forecasts for each dispatch period. The MCE incorporated the solar generation forecast with load forecasts to produce a more accurate market dispatch schedule.

We hope that this enhancement can help the market better understand the amount of solar generation projection by the PSO.

We thank all market participants for their continuous feedback and support and will continue to explore new service enhancements to further value add to market stakeholders.
